Michael Gunn Park at Platte Meadows

Michael Gunn Park at Platte Meadows

Managed by Platte County Parks & Recreation

Michael Gunn Park at Platte Meadows, located off Northwest 52nd Street in Kansas City, has been a Platte County property since 2002, and its development was identified in the county’s original Parks Master Plan.

The 110-acre park features rolling hills, open meadows, scenic views, and multi-purpose trails, making it an ideal location for family outings, nature walks, and outdoor recreation in southern Platte County.

Phase I of the project was completed in 2022 and included the construction of a one-mile limestone loop trail.

Phase II improvements are now substantially complete and feature the new Castle Playground, which officially opened in May 2026. The castle-themed playground includes towers, climbing elements, swings, slides, and nature-inspired play features designed to encourage imaginative play and adventure.

Additional Phase II improvements include expanded parking and a new shelter facility. At this time, the shelter is available on a 100% first-come, first-served basis and is not available for reservations.

Through a partnership with the Rotary Club, a butterfly garden is also currently being installed at the park.

Construction of the restroom facility is still underway and is anticipated to be completed and opened in Fall 2026.

Michael Gunn Park at Platte Meadows continues to grow as one of Platte County’s premier outdoor recreation destinations. Families are invited to come explore the new "Northwood Castle" and enjoy all the park has to offer.
