Residents Voice Opinions through

Survey and Public Meetings

Public opinion is an important factor to updating the Parks Master Plan.  Recently, residents were given the chance to speak their minds about parks through a community interest survey and a public meeting.  Currently, more chances to voice opinions about parks are taking place through focus groups.

Survey results from the Community Interest Survey, completed during summer 2008, are in and residents have determined that the greatest need in Platte County is trails (77%) following by picnicking area and shelters (61%), nature trail and natural interpretive areas (61%) and indoor fitness and exercises facilities (60%).  For complete survey results, see page sidebar.

Over 80 residents showed up to help plan the future of Platte County Parks by attending the Public Meeting on September 30, 2008.  Residents mingled with Commissioners, Park Board Members and Parks staff expressing the importance of issues and amenities in parks, trails and recreational opportunities.  Areas of importance that were stressed at the meeting included tennis facilities, athletic & sports fields and walking trails.  For complete Public Meeting Results, see sidebar.

In the next two months, focus groups will continue to meet to determine parks and recreation priorities for citizens from local cities, school districts, special interest and demographic areas.  Information from the focus groups will be available soon.
