Get Moving with Parks & Rec 2017 Programs!

April 1 – High on Grass 5K Run/Walk

Run or walk on an all-grass course at the 2nd annual High on Grass 5K held April 1 at Platte Ridge Park starting at 9:00 a.m. Thank you to our presenting sponsor, the Grass Pad, for helping host this race. Registration cost is $30. Long sleeve t-shirts will be given to all registered participants and additional shirts will be available for a fee. April 22 – Art in the Park

Join Platte County Parks & Recreation and Platte City Friends of the Arts on April 22nd to see, experience, and create art! The 3rd annual Art in the Park has been moved to Platte County Community Center North, 3101 Running Horse Rd, Platte City, MO, and includes local art displays, live music, and activities for families. This event is for all ages and free to the public.

Enjoy “make & take” art and teaching stations.  Art display stations are available for this event. If you would like to be a vendor, contact Chris Oryshyn at (816) 858-3337. Let your inner artist or art enthusiast be moved through a great day in the park!  Concessions will be available from a food vendor.

May 20 – Tour de Platte

Come biking along the beautiful trails and back roads of Platte County. The third annual Tour de Platte bike ride is scheduled for May 20, 2017, 8 a.m. at E.H. Young Park in Riverside, MO. Routes for cyclists of all levels will be available. The family route is 10 miles, the intermediate route is 18 miles, and the advanced route is 36 miles. 

The ride will begin and end at E.H. Young Park with a few pit stops along the way for refreshments. The Riverside Chamber of Commerce is providing end of tour refreshments and a free t-shirt to all participants. Registration for this event will start in March.

June 3 – National Trails Day

Come hiking at any of Platte County’s terrific trails on National Trails Day, June 3. Bring your friends and family to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

June 10 - Free Fishing Day

Learn to fish at a free fishing clinic in partnership with conservation officials at Platte Ridge Park. No fishing license required; all equipment and bait provided.

July 15/September 9 – Floating Events

Start floating at Guy B. Park Conservation Area on July 15 with instructional canoe & kayaking, then put those new skills to use at the Missouri River Float on September 9.

August 5 – Youth Sports Festival

Learn about all the sports opportunities available for youth in the County and put your skills to the test at the sports stations at Zona Rosa.

October 14 – Pedal for Platte

Join Platte County Parks & Recreation on the 2nd annual Pedal for Platte. This bike ride is designed for bikers of all levels and winds through the parks, trails, and back roads of northern Platte County.
