Overview
The English Landing Park Expansion project includes properties owned by Platte County and the City of Parkville.  The county property was acquired utilizing funds from the dedicated half-cent parks sales tax.  These properties, consisting of about 144 acres, are west of and adjacent to Main Street and the current English Landing Park.  The existing English Landing Park is approximately 68 acres.  According to County master plan surveys, English Landing is the most visited facility of all parks and recreation sites in the County.
County/City Partnership
Platte County and the City of Parkville have a long history of working together to improve public recreational opportunities.  Officials are now coming together again to develop plans to enlarge the park with new amenities.  The partnership will leverage the resources and expertise of both organizations to accomplish this goal and make a great park even better.  The citizen driven process will be coordinated by Jim Kunce, Assistant Director of Platte County Parks and Recreation, and Sean Ackerson, Assistant City Administrator / Community Development Director.

Goals and expected outcomes of the planning process
-Citizen focused, citizen driven  -Increase recreational opportunities
-Financial stability for park operations and maintenance  -Recognition of the City/County partnership
-River corridor protection  -Safe places for the community and youth
-Recognition of the voter approved county sales tax contributions to the expansion
-Sustainability – both natural resources and success of English Landing Park
Connection to Platte County Park System Master Plan and City of Parkville Master Plans
In the recent update of the Platte County Park System Master Plan, broad citizen goals included (1) protecting natural resources, (2) providing health and wellness opportunities, and (3) creating safe recreation places for children.  Specific connections of English Landing to both the Platte County and City Master Plans include the property‘s geographical relationship to the Missouri River and the desire to extend the riverfront regional trail route through this area.

Planning/Development  Process
The entire park master planning process will be citizen driven.  A project Steering Committee consisting of County and City officials and volunteers will work with a new project citizens committee and will host numerous public meetings and special focus groups.  In addition feedback on ideas for the new park can always be submitted through this website by clicking here.  As draft plans are developed and new ideas emerge all information will be posted here for public viewing and input, so check back often.  A tentative timeline for the project is as follows:
