Platte Parks Master Plan Feedback

“Very good walking trails – congratulations and good job!  I would love to see the YMCA in Platte City enlarged especially the pool and the track.”

“I am a swimming coach at Platte City.  It would be nice to have a indoor facility to be used by kids and adults.  Young people in Platte City enjoy swimming.  There are 15 members of the boys’ high school team and over 30 for the girls.”

“I have been impressed with the quality of facilities and process.”
-Comment card 10/6/08

“The YMCA is amazing.  Child Watch is great.  The pool is very small but very nice.  There is no pool in Platte City for all these school kids.  Swimming is a wonderful sport that breeds smart, focused kids.”

“Connect existing trails and paths.

“My impression is high.  The Parks & Rec facilities available for kids and family are excellent.  Keep up the good work.

“The YMCA is costly and wasn’t built large enough to use in the busier times.  I want a swimming pool with lap lanes and there are just two.  I would also like to take affordable golf lessons so I can take up that sport.”

“Platte County needs to put their parks and commercial shopping areas together or next to each other physically so both will be enhanced by the other.”

“Connect Timber Park Meadows to the Greenway.”

“Parks & greenways will become even more important as the county and Platte City/Parkville keep growing.”
-Comment card 10/6/08

“More lanes in the community center pools.”
-Comment card 9/26/08

“Walking and bicycle trails – excellent.  Keep expanding them before new homes take all land.  Flood plan areas work great!”
-Comment card 10/15/08
“Every weekend my friends and I meet with our kids and have to go to Penn Valley Skate Park or Shawnee Mission Skate Park.  Lots of kids skate as well as a lot of us older guys also.  It is not seasonal like baseball or football.”
-Comment card 9/30/08

“It would be nice to adequate fields for Platte City Youth Football League.  Currently football teams practice on median.  High school football field should not be the solution.  Platte Ridge has great potential.”
-Comment card 9/30/08

“It would be nice to have more parks that people can enjoy and use, more green spaces, maybe a nice nature conservancy.”
-Comment card 10/1/08

“I’ve been to smaller communities with fewer financial resources that have much nicer parks with far more amenities.”
-Comment card 9/30/08

“There are currently zero usable tennis courts in Platte City.  The demand is high for youth and adult leagues and with the high school successfully starting a tennis program this year, it seems like a great time to build courts.”
-Comment card 9/30/08

“It seems sports fields and community centers have gotten the most attention.  Walking, biking and mountain bike trails have not.”
-Comment card 9/29/08

“Continue to maintain existing facilities at a high level.  Promote new facilities to expand recreation options for families.  We appreciate your concern and attention to have the best parks and recreation facilities and options of any county in the state.”
-Comment card 9/29/08

“Improve the operating efficiency of swimming facilities and staff training.”
-Comment card 10/15/08

“Shortage of ice sheets in Platte County and KC metro area – hockey, figure skating and community public skating needs are underserved.”
-Comment card 9/29/08

“Fees at community center seem a bit much considering my tax dollars helped build the facility.”
-Website visitor 10/9/08

“The great staff at the YMCA front desk makes me excited to come and workout.”
-Comment card 9/26/08

“Try to have pocket recreation areas in all major subdivisions.  Require developer to have backyard access to area for play. Mark trees for educational benefit along trails.”
-Comment card 10/15/08
“Need more leg machines and an aerobics room with mirrors at the YMCA.”
-Comment card 9/26/08

“We do not need more new housing divisions and townhomes.  Please redevelop land with more green spaces.  Think about the environment.”
-Comment card 10/1/08

“Tennis courts. Excelsior Springs High School has a very nice set up.  Worth checking out if we are able to build in Platte County.”
-Website visitor 10/1/08

“Keep up with modern recreational trends. I like tennis, but how many times do you actually see someone playing tennis at a park anymore? Is that a wise investment?”
-Website visitor 10/1/08

“Platte County is doing a great job on their parks. Just keep up the good work and listen to the people using them and all will be fine.”
-Website visitor 10/1/08

“I would like to see the PC Parks consider making Platte Ridge Park a PERMANENT home for Platte County Youth Football.  This is a very fast growing program and we need a facility we can depend on.”
-Website visitor 10/2/08

“I think Platte Co. needs to remember green space and curb urban growth as that GREEN is what attracted many people to the Northland!”
-Website visitor 10/7/08

“Would like to see more space devoted to equestrian activities. There are a lot of clubs out there that would volunteer to keep up trails so there would be a place to ride.  Have heard "talk" of a "bridle path"/equestrail trails to be put in near Tiffany Springs and think that would be an excellent place and it has plenty of space to explore.”
-Website visitor 10/7/08

“Our family enjoys Platte Ridge playground and picnic area. Usually quiet and peaceful. Prarie Creek Greenway Nice place to ride bikes.”
-Website visitor 10/9/08

“Full-size 50 meter indoor swimming pool.  The Northland Swim Conference is among the city's best kept secrets, but the number of children involved in swimming at all levels is amazing. The need for an new, state of the art indoor swimming facility is vast.  There are several swim clubs throughout the Northland.   Year-round swimming has become very popular in Platte County, and the number of recreational swim clubs is growing.  Facilities have definitely NOT kept up with demand.”
