Welcome from the County Commission

Less than 10 years ago Platte County had very few opportunities for families to enjoy a day at the park, take a walk on a trail or improve
their personal health and wellness. In 1999 a group of citizens looked
at every square inch of the county and saw a lot of need, and a lot of potential.

The Survey Results are In!

Platte County Parks recently sent out 2,000 surveys to local residents to help establish the priorities for future development of parks and recreation facility and services.  Over 400 responses were received detailing the interests and preferences of County residents.  Concerning future land acquisitions, residents agreed that acquiring land along streams and rivers for conservation and recreation is the main priority (59%) with acquiring land for passive recreation use (48%) and acquiring open space and leaving undeveloped for conservation (35%) coming in second and third.

Other survey highlights include:

  • Over 73 percent of residents have visited one Platte County park, trail or recreation area during the past year.
  • 59% would like the County acquire additional spaces along rivers and streams for recreation conservation and to protect water.
  • Adult fitness, music & cultural festivals and outdoor adventures are the top three recreations programs requested.
  • 62% of respondents feel the most important function of the Park Department is operating and maintaining current county parks.
